What is Al-Birr wal-Taqwa Egyptian Central Association?
An Egyptian non-profit NGO founded in 2007 in the village of Basarta, Damietta. It now works across Egypt on water wells, housing, orphan and family sponsorship, healthcare, education and livelihood projects. Its slogan is "We Are With You" (إحنا معاك).
Is Al-Birr wal-Taqwa officially registered?
Yes. It is registered with the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity under No. 850 dated 5 August 2018 with the Central Administration for Associations (a central association), and was previously registered under No. 408 of 2007 in Damietta.
Who chairs Al-Birr wal-Taqwa?
Sheikh Emad Awad founded the association and has chaired its board since 2007. He is a teacher of Arabic and Islamic studies, an accredited preacher with the Ministry of Awqaf, and presented the TV programme "We Are With You".
Where does Al-Birr wal-Taqwa work?
Nationwide across Egypt, with branches and offices in governorates including Cairo, Giza, Damietta, Qalyubia, Alexandria, Kafr El Sheikh, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Qena, Ismailia and North Sinai.
What does Al-Birr wal-Taqwa do?
Water wells and connections, building and roofing homes, healthcare (including Al-Birr Specialized Hospital in Basarta), orphan and family sponsorship, mosques and Quran schools, education and literacy, small livelihood projects, food and seasonal aid, aid convoys, and paying off the debts of imprisoned debtors.
How can I donate to Al-Birr wal-Taqwa?
Donate online from the "Donate now" page at elbrweltqwa.com, by bank transfer to the association's accounts, by requesting a collector who receives your gift at home with an official receipt, or through the hotline.
Can I pay zakat to Al-Birr wal-Taqwa?
Yes. The association delivers zakat to eligible recipients such as the poor, the needy and debtors, and most projects are marked "Zakat eligible". The website has a zakat calculator based on the current gold price.
Can I sponsor an orphan or a family monthly?
Yes. From the "Monthly sponsorship" page you choose a monthly amount to sponsor an orphan or a family in need, and track your gifts from your account.
What is Al-Birr Specialized Hospital?
A hospital built by the association in Basarta on the international road in Damietta, opened in May 2026, with outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, radiology, operating rooms and a neonatal unit.
Is Al-Birr wal-Taqwa Egyptian Central Association related to other organisations with similar names?
Al-Birr wal-Taqwa Egyptian Central Association is an independent association registered under No. 850 of 2018 (formerly No. 408 of 2007). Any other organisation with a similar name and a different registration number is a separate entity. Its only official website is elbrweltqwa.com.
